5 Books for Middle Schoolers

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

1. Fablehaven by Brandon Mull

This is a wonderful book series about a brother and a sister finding

themselves in a magical world. Although Seth starts the series

making all kinds of cringeworthy choices, readers immediately are

drawn into their adventures. I found myself rooing for all of the

characters at the preserve, and I love watching Seth and Kendra

grow and change throughout the series..

2. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

In this book a spunky “orphan,” Lyra, finds herself on an adventure that takes her to many different worlds. Pullman’s words are magical, and his writing draws you in and makes you feel as if you are accompanying her on her journey.

3. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

The Artemis Fowl series is about a rich boy genius that is looking for something. With the help of his trusty manservant Butler, he tricks his way into the secret world of fairies. The antics between Artemis, Holley, Foley, and Mulch take the reader on an exciting adventure through Colfer's world of magical creatures.

4. Pendragon: The Merchant of Death by D.J. MacHale

This series is full of adventure, different worlds, and different timelines. Bobby Pendragon and his team travel through space and time into many interesting situations solving problems and trying to defeat their nemesis. The quality of the bad guy in this book makes it very engaging and high stakes.

5. The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

Riordan is known for creating a world that brings myths together with modern day. In this book series Sadie and Carter are thrown into the world of the Egyptian gods and must stop one of them from destroying the world.
